MailMarshal SMTP 5.5 released, 5/6/03

 

NetIQ - Marshal Solutions have released version 5.5 of MailMarshal SMTP. Amoungst the new changes are the eagerly awaited release of the new anti-spam engine, which incoporates a dynamic script update facility from NetIQ. Another new feature of 5.5 is the ability to detect embedded objects within PDF, Excel and Powerpoint files.

MailMarshal SMTP 5.5 contains the following changes in addition to all bug fixes in MailMarshal 5.0.3.99:

- Prevent install of Services, Console, Configurator and Reports on any Unsupported Operating System (NT4,W9X, ME).
- Fixed issue with FSecure so that MailMarshal virus scanning with FSecure will continue to work after upgrade from MailMarshal 5.
- Prevent spaces from being entered at the end of Local domains. Spaces in local domain names could cause license key errors.
-Fixed possible memory leak in Active Directory or LDAP lookup.
- Fixed issue with Configurator locks not working under specific circumstances (has existed since pre 5.0 versions).
- Improved unpacking of MS Word documents.
- Improved unhandled exception error handling for all services
- Added Spam Ruleset to Default Rules. New installs only, upgrading customers can import a merge file (55NewRules.zip) from this location & please contact us for assistance with this if you have any questions.
- Added filetype.cfg file as a development tool for adding additional file type definitions.
- Added ability to increase log file truncation size in console.
- Added checkbox for case sensitivity for header matching in rules.
- Improved syntax support within the usergroup.txt file.
- Reworded 'Where message cannot be encrypted for one or more recipients' rule to make it clear in what circumstances it applies.
- Added a Test button for virus scanners on the tool bar (this replaces VirusScannerCheck.exe which was previously distributed with MailMarshal).
- Added Advanced Properties options for handling of bare carriage returns (CR) and line feeds (LF) in the Receiver.
- Fixed RTF issues due to MacBIN components.
- Added further possible virus risk warnings when releasing quarantined messages from the Console.
- Improved window sizing in templates.
- Fixed issue with dots and other non standard characters being entered in database names.
- Release Notes are now installed with product.
- Removed options of Excel 7.0 and 8.0 extended format when exporting reports.
- Can now supply a different set of database login credentials when upgrading MailMarshal Secure Email (SMIME).

**Note: MailMarshal can no longer be installed under Windows NT 4.0, Win95/98/ME or other Pre-Windows 2000 Operating Systems. This includes the Services, Configurator, Console and Reports Console. This is due to support being stopped for Windows NT Server in the near future.

Recent Changes:

5.5.Release 3 (Build 15) - 11 June 2003 Fixed issue with ‘Strip attachment’ action which when triggered for a message caused the message to be dead lettered. Fixed issue with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint files being detected as the Binary Unknown (BIN) file type, due to unpacked text.

5.5.Release 3 (Build 14) - 4 June 2003 Fixed issue where text extracted from pdf files is detected as binary unknown. Fixed issue with engine exiting when unpacking some pdf files.
